UROPs to Nathan, Sheila and Kaelt!
Congratulations to Nathan Korson, Sheila Paintsil and Kaelt Simpson for being recognized with Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) awards from the University of Minnesota for Fall 2016. They wrote proposals about their projects, which were reviewed. They received stipends and supply money to support their work. Great job!

Nathan Korson and Claire Baetzold present their summer research at the UMD Chemistry & Biochemistry's Summer Undergraduate Research Program Poster Symposium. Nathan's poster focuses on his success at building our fluorescence correlation and cross-correlation spectroscopy system this summer, which will help us greatly. Claire's poster focuses on her excellent job of learning the ways of biochemistry and molecular biology to express and purify fluorescent proteins from E. coli. Congratulations!
Kaelt recognized with a MHTA scholarship!
Congratulations to Kaelt Simpson, who has been selected as a 2016 Minnesota High Tech Association Foundation Scholarship recipient. The MHTA Foundation promotes the development of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) competency in students that will enable them to thrive in and support the global competitiveness of Minnesota's technology-based economy. Great job, Kaelt!

Nathan Korson received a Swenson Undergraduate Research Program fellowship to work in the lab during Summer 2016. Kaelt Simpson received a SURP fellowship to work with Dr. Katie Schreiner during Summer 2016. We are looking forward to seeing lots of great results this summer!
Sheila goes to school ... in biophysics!
Sheila Paintsil is spending Summer 2016 in Chapel Hill NC at the University of North Carolina. She was selected to participate in the highly competitive Summer Research Program in Biophysics, which is sponsored by the Biophysical Society. We are looking forward to hearing all about her experiences.
Departmental awards to Kaelt Simpson
Congratulations to Kaelt Simpson for being recognized by the UMD Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at its recent awards ceremony. She was awarded the Undergraduate Analytical Chemistry Award, the James H. Maguire Scholarship, and the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Award. Great job, Kaelt!

We welcome our newest member, Claire Baetzold, to the Sheets Research Group. She is a Biochemistry & Molecular Biology major from North St. Paul. We look forward to many experiments in the lab.
